Summary0000194: Make IDs less prominent
DescriptionScattered throughout SiT are IDs, site IDs, contract IDs etc. These aren't very user-friendly or useful. When I log into amazon, they don't show me my contact ID or the ID of the product I am buying (retail-side aside). The only ID we should have visible is the incident one.
Additional InformationConsensus (i think) seems to be that we need them, but they don't need to be so in-your-face obvious.

We should place them unubtrusively, probably with the created/last modified times etc. perhaps in a smaller, lighter font.

I agree this would make the interface cleaner the only slight issue is that the IDs are useful when debugging or having to manually adjust the DB in most cases these are passed in through the URL so thats OK though I have a feeling they could be posted in the odd place.

Its probably useful to show the IDs somewhere at the bottom in a much smaller font so we can still access this info though not show it so predominately

I don't disagree they can be useful but if we are using them I think we are doing something wrong IMO. If we're touching the database manually that means we are lacking admin tools which needs to be addressed properly.

I agree with making them less prominent, they are still useful tho IMO, so I think we should keep them, a tiny grey font at the bottom of the page is fine by me. e.g. if there are two John Smiths, it's useful to know by seeing there are two record ID's. And maintenance contracts are still quite often referenced by their ID, at least by us.

Whilst we should have the admin tools to do everything we want there will always be cases where we don't and we need to make a quick tweak to the data which could be done in seconds in the DB whilst we write the admin tool.

Whilst most SiT'ers will probably never need to modify the DB we do modify ours quite abit given the data we have (from the days when SiT did alot less checking).

It also allows you to debug/troubleshoot issues without having to write a debug version

Anybody know what the consensus was on this one? Does it need some more discussion?

Think we agreed that we still need the IDs (troubleshooting etc) though they should be less prominent rather than the to of the page in bold
